The Mishra School of Indian Classical Music is located in Nelson, B.C., Canada. The school is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Nelson.
The school has been created so that Pandit Shivnath Mishra and his son, Debu Mishra, both internationally reknowned sitarists from Varanasi, India can keep alive the ancient tradition of Indian classical music by teaching all aspects of this music to students both young and old alike. It is intended that this school will serve students from all over North America as an excellent way to learn and apprentice with these world-class musicians.
Initial classes being offered will be classes in sitar(ranging from beginner, intermediate, and advanced skill levels), vocal classes(truly awesome!), tabla, and other instruments including harmonium, violin, guitar, and more. In addition, there will be weekly kirtan(devotional singing and chanting) open to students and the public alike.
As more students apply, then more classes covering such things as traditional Kathak dancing, Tala (the language and structure of Indian music), Hindi (the spoken language of northern India), and even Indian cooking will be added eventually.
The Mishra School of Indian Classical Music is operated by the Mishra School of Indian Classical Music Society, a registered not for profit society in British Columbia, Canada.
